Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Policy Officer – Community Safety to help lead this important work.  If you’re passionate about policy excellence, evidence-based decision-making and delivering real community outcomes, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact every single day.

What You’ll Do

Policy, Governance & Compliance

  • Develop and review policies, procedures and operational guidelines for Community Safety services.
  • Ensure governance frameworks reflect legislation, Local Laws and best‑practice models.
  • Provide expert interpretation of legislation and regulatory requirements and translate these into clear, practical guidance.

Research, Intelligence & Insights

  • Conduct strategic research, data analysis and environmental scanning on safety trends, crime prevention and regulatory changes.
  • Prepare high‑quality briefing notes, business cases and reports for executives and Council.
  • Develop performance dashboards and insights to identify risks, trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Support responses to information requests and contribute to Council/Committee reporting.

Systems, Process & Quality Improvement

  • Map and optimise workflows to uplift quality and efficiency.
  • Design and embed quality assurance controls and document management standards.
  • Support internal audits and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide analysis and solutions for complex issues relating to policy, systems and practice.
  • Monitor service delivery performance and support key reforms and projects across all Community Safety streams.

Corporate Contribution

  • Support proactive risk management and safe working practices.
  • Engage with stakeholders and community members to build trust and inform decision-making.

Qualifications

About You

You are an analytical thinker, skilled communicator and confident collaborator who thrives in complex environments. You bring curiosity, initiative and a drive for excellence in public policy and community outcomes.

You’ll also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Public Policy, Governance, Law, Business, Research or relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy development, governance or compliance within government or a regulated environment.
  • Strong ability to interpret legislation and deliver clear, operational advice.
  • High‑level written communication skills with experience producing technical reports and policy documents.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously.
  • Experience leading organisational change and implementing new processes.
  • Ability to analyse complex information and translate it into meaningful insights.
