Role Highlights
The Senior Health and Safety Coordinator (SHSC) reports to the Manager Health & Safety, and partners with Fremantle Ports’ leaders and employees to strengthen safety performance and support organisational objectives. The role provides specialist work, health and safety (WHS) advice, facilitates training, coordinates risk assessments, and contributes to incident management and emergency response. The role also contributes to WHS assurance activities, including inspections and audits and -hoc safety initiatives as required to support delivery of the Health and Safety Team’s annual plan.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Coach managers and team leaders to conduct effective HSE Field Book interactions and safety conversations in the field.
Contributes to the ongoing strategic development and achievement of the Fremantle Ports’ Strategic Plan and objectives, including the development of a high-performance culture at a branch, divisional and organisational level.
Provide WHS specialist advice and support to managers, employees, and contractors across all stages of work planning and execution.
Develop, coordinate, and deliver WHS training programs, including site HSE inductions.
Support the development and review of risk management documentation, including procedures, SWMS, JSAs, and work instructions.
Provide incident response support, including first aid assistance, escorting injured workers for medical assessment, and supporting preliminary investigations.
Advise on regulatory notification requirements and site preservation following workplace incidents.
Spot audits and formal safety inspections
Coordinate and support site safety committee meetings, including maintaining compliance with WHS representative elections and training requirements.
Coordinate risk-based Occupational Hygiene Monitoring programs.
Facilitate Alcohol and Other Drugs testing conducted by external providers.
Provide training, oversight, and assurance for the Permit to Work system.
Coordinate and manage external safety consultants when required.
Liaise with external stakeholders such as Kwinana Industrial Management Agencies, Kwinana Industrial City, Customers, operators and tenants on WHS matters.
Coordinate and fulfil procurement tasks.
Will be required to be part of on-call roster.
What makes you a great fit
You will enjoy facilitating WHS risk management using a range of contemporary risk management processes and tools. Your ability to analyse WHS information and make recommendations will assist you in interpreting and explaining WHS legislation, codes of practice and standards. You have strong interpersonal skills and are self-motivated and have a strong work ethic to work effectively and efficiently without close supervision.
Minimum seven (7) years WHS experience in similar industry.
Holds Tertiary qualifications in WHS, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and capability.
Unrestricted 'C' class driver's licence.
Experience in WHS management in similar industry or other heavy industries.
Senior/Occupational First Aid qualification (desirable).
ICAM Lead Investigator trained or similar (desirable).
Holds Internal Auditor qualification (desirable).
Usability Mapping trained (desirable).
