About the role

AGL Hydro has a 12-month opportunity for an Operations & Electrical Safety Manager.

Based in Mount Beauty, this role provides operational governance across all AGL Hydro Operations. You will hold accountability for the governance of safe access for operations and maintenance activities and for electrical safety systems across the Hydro fleet.

The role works across the Hydro operating structure including the Operations Hub, Operations Coordinators, Operator Team Leader, and Senior Operators providing strategic oversight, assurance, and compliance, and direct operational support and leadership.

What you’ll do:

• Providing leadership and direction to the Hydro operations team to deliver safe, compliant, and effective hydro operations
• Acting as the Operating Authority for Hydro operations, maintaining and continuously improving operational standards, procedures, and safe systems of work
• Providing line management oversight of the team responsible for coordinating plant isolations and ensuring safe access arrangements for operations and maintenance activities
• Leading and coordinating the Hydro Operator training and competency program, including maintenance of training records and the operations evidence portfolio
• Monitoring operational and electrical safety performance, incidents, and trends, and driving corrective actions and continuous improvement within the operations function
• Leading operational verification and assurance activities in alignment with AGL’s risk, safety, and compliance frameworks
• Partnering with HSE Business Partners, Operator Team Leader, and Hydro leaders to embed AGL’s safety culture, values, and expected behaviours across operations
• Supporting the Head of Hydro in the delivery of operational priorities, change initiatives, and workforce capability uplift
• Maintaining effective working relationships with regulators, water authorities, and key industry stakeholders to support compliant and reliable operations

What you’ll bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Safety, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
• Experience in operations and electrical safety management, ideally within power generation or heavy industrial environments
• Experience leading teams and influencing senior stakeholders
• Ability to manage risk, operate in complex environments and make sound decisions
• A continuous improvement mindset
