Role Highlights

The Health and Safety Coordinator (HSC) reports to the Manager Health & Safety, and partners with Fremantle Ports’ leaders and employees to enhance safety performance and support organisational goals. This role provides specialist work, health and safety (WHS) advice, delivers training, facilitates risk assessments, and contributes to incident and emergency response. The HSC builds WHS capability across the organisation by coaching, supporting compliance with legislation and internal standards, and uses the safety management system to monitor, analyse and report on WHS performance. The role also understands WHS assurance activities, including inspections, and audits. 

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Provide WHS specialist advice (evidence-based where practicable) and support to Fremantle Ports managers, staff and contractors working for Fremantle Ports through all phases of work planning and execution. Advice and support may include interpretation of legislative and other WHS obligations or guidance, WHS risk management, contractor WHS management, incident and emergency management, WHS performance monitoring, analysis, & improvement

  • Develop, coordinate and deliver WHS related information and training, including HSE inductions.

  • Coach and mentor staff and contractors in the application of our safety management systems

  • Participate in the development of and/or advise on the adequacy of risk management plans, procedures, work instructions, SWMS, JSAs, etc.

  • Conduct and report on the outcomes of WHS inspections, audits and other monitoring activities.

  • Prepare WHS bulletins, alerts and local WHS communication

 

What makes you a great fit

You will enjoy facilitating WHS risk management using a range of contemporary risk management processes and tools. Your ability to analyse WHS information and make recommendations will assist you in interpreting and explaining WHS legislation, codes of practice and standards. You have strong interpersonal skills and are self-motivated and have a strong work ethic to work effectively and efficiently without close supervision.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Holds Tertiary qualifications in WHS, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and capability. 

  • Unrestricted 'C' class driver's licence.

  • Experience in WHS management in similar industry or other heavy industries.

  • Senior/Occupational First Aid qualification (desirable).

  • ICAM Lead Investigator trained or similar (desirable).

  • Holds Internal Auditor qualification (desirable).

  • Usability Mapping trained (desirable).
